How These Three Awesome Books Tickled My Brain

Reading books is a favorite past time of mine, and over the years I have accumulated quite a collection that I keep on re-reading time and time. There are stories that, when you read them, you find yourself thinking what ifs. Here are some books that really tickled my brain.

The Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett

The End of Times is upon the Earth as heralded by the birth of the son of Satan. As the Four Horsemen gather to do their job, Aziraphale the angel and Crowley the demon thought of ways to thwart the end of the world which they grew particularly fond of. The race is on to find the son of Satan in the form of Adam Young who lived as any young English boy albeit with uncanny abilities. The twists in the story are kind of interesting, and the ending is one that you are sure to enjoy. Written by two brilliant minds, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, you won’t be able to put this book down once you start reading.

Across the Nightingale Floor by Lian Hearn

Since I am fond of reading books about feudal Japan, this one really piqued my curiosity. This is the first book in the series Tales of the Otori. It begins with a young man of The Hidden tribe named Tomasu who found his entire family murdered by the Tohan. During his escape, he managed to unhorse its leader named Iida Sadamu and was eventually saved by Lord Shigeru. Lord Shigeru adopted Tomasu naming him Otori Takeo and was to wed the beautiful Shirakawa Kaede. On the way to meeting his bride-to-be, Takeo and Lord Shigeru became involved in an assassination attempt on Iida Sadamu that will put Lord Shigeru in harm’s way and Takeo to the path of the Hidden.

Postmortem by Patricia Cornwell

There is something about crime novels that I find fascinating. And the Kay Scarpetta series is one that I am quite fond of. Postmortem is the first book that shows the life of Dr. Kay Scarpetta as Chief Medical Examiner of the State of Virginia. A serial killer is on the loose killing five women through strangulation after raping them first throughout Richmond. Together with Detective Pete Marino and FBI Profiler Benton Wesley, Scarpetta needs to figure out who is behind the killings and put an end to it while at the same time dealing with her personal life and her ten-year-old niece Lucy Farinelli who is considered as a genius at a very young age.

These are just a few titles that I want to recommend to anyone who is looking for something interesting to add to their collection of books to read. If you are willing to foray into the unknown Neil Gaiman’s and Terry Pratchett’s work is certainly worth considering, and if you are fond of crime novels, Patricia Cornwell’s Scarpetta series is something you might want to start with. For those who want to read more about feudal Japan and the intricacies of its culture, Lian Hearn’s Tales of the Otori is worth picking up at your local bookstore. I  would love to hear your thoughts about all of these three books in the comments below. Happy Reading!
